Funding for UK-Israel Research

The British government announced it will contribute a grant of £29,000 in addition to their initial £20,000 gift to the Britain-Israel Research and Academic Exchange Partnership (BIRAX).

The foundation was established in 2008 to encourage research and academic collaboration between Britain and Israel. BIRAX has already awarded grants totaling £365,000 to 15 joint Israeli and British academic projects at 17 different universities in the UK and Israel.

The Israeli government donated NIS 160,000, United Jewish Israel Appeal gave £200,000 and the London-based Pears Foundation provided the largest amount at £550,000. The latest grant comes amid persistent calls in Britain for academic and economic boycotts against Israel.
