Tension Mounts & IDF Plan Drills

Posted: Thu 3rd September 2009 1.36 PM  | AuthorDavid Soakell

nullAs regional tensions continue to mount over the Iranian nuclear threat, Israel’s National Emergency Authority and the Israeli Defence Force (IDF) are planning more drills to prepare the civilian population for all-out missile wars, including a drill on 1st January 2010.

This will be the biggest ever exercise of its kind to prepare for a city-wide biological attack. The drill will include elements from the IDF Home Front Command, Magen David Adom, the Israel Police, the IDF Medical Corps, the IDF Spokesman's Office and the Fire and Rescue Service. Diseases known to have been weaponised include Ebola, anthrax, Q fever and smallpox, and Syria is known to have large quantities of these germs as well as Scud missiles equipped to deliver them.

This is an area we need to pray into. Should such a war happen, Israel need to be fully prepared, and trust not only in their army but also in the LORD God of Hosts.

Mohamed ElBaradei, outgoing chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency, claimed on Tuesday that the Iranian nuclear threat has been "hyped," saying there is no proof the Islamic republic will soon have atomic weapons.

nullElBaradei told the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists in an interview released on Tuesday: "Yes, there's concern about Iran's future intentions and Iran needs to be more transparent with the IAEA and international community. But the idea that we'll wake up tomorrow and Iran will have a nuclear weapon is an idea that isn't supported by the facts as we have seen them so far."

On Sunday, Israeli officials accused the Egyptian-born ElBaradei of refusing to release a classified report on Iran's suspected nuclear weapons experiments, when he kept out of last Friday's mixed IAEA report on Tehran’s renegade nuclear program. The decision on its release will now go to his successor, Japan's Amano, due to take office on 1st December.
