The Fight Against Facebook Anti Semitism

Facebook has been accused of ‘becoming a very potent and dangerous tool for promoting hatred and the delegitimzation of Israel.’ Such concerns have found their way into the American Congress where Rabbi Abraham Cooper said his Jewish human rights group had found some 8,000 problematic sites in the last 12 months, a 30 percent spike over last year.

Rabbi Cooper attributes a third of the 30 percent spike to blogs and discussion groups that support terrorism. Facebook is a tool used to combine both blogging and discussion groups, which is why some have argued it is promoting both terrorism and anti semitism.

The Jewish Internet Defense Force, (JIDF) hacked into a Facebook group entitled ‘" Israel" is not a country!... ... Delist it from Facebook as a country!’ and removed most of the 48,000 members last week.

"This was one of the most vile, most anti-Semitic, most pro-Jihad and most disgusting, and most importantly, most active hate groups on the Internet," the JIDF posted on the anti-Israel page on Facebook. "It actively promoted hatred, violence, murder and genocide. Despite tens of thousands of complaints, Facebook wouldn't remove it."

"Facebook's negligence and abdication of responsibility gave us no option but to take matters in our own hands," the JIDF added.

It is not just the JIDF who are fighting back against hate on the internet. Isrelate.com has it’s own Facebook group, check it out here
